My Story
My culinary journey began more than 25 years ago—long before food was curated for social media. I was classically trained, learned by doing, and grew up respecting kitchens as places of discipline, creativity, and care.

Over the years, my path has taken me through professional kitchens, healthcare foodservice, education, consulting, and leadership. Each chapter shaped how I understand food—not just as craft, but as service to the people it feeds.
I carry my Appalachian roots with me in everything I do. For me, food has always been about more than flavor. It is about nourishment, memory, and responsibility. It is about feeding people well, running kitchens with integrity, and honoring the labor behind every plate.

Along the way, I learned that good food does not exist without good systems. I became deeply invested in food safety, compliance, and operational structure—not as red tape, but as a way to protect people, teams, and communities. That work led me to become a Certified ServSafe Instructor and Proctor, supporting others who are building careers and businesses of their own.

Today, through Chef Tonya LLC, I bring together everything I’ve learned: the craft of cooking, the discipline of operations, and the soul of tradition.

I work with private clients, food businesses, healthcare facilities, and individuals who value food that is intentional, well-run, and grounded in care. I also share my story through writing, including an Amazon-published culinary memoir that honors family, resilience, and the long road behind a life in the kitchen.
My work is steady, thoughtful, and honest—because that is how I believe food should be.
